Is it really Progress?

Some might say that over the years our society has progressed, especially Americans. We have developed top notch technology, figured out ways to get whatever we want by the click of a keyboard, and developed millions of housing units and businesses. On the surface, all of this looks great. What we fail to realize is what we have lost due to this "progression". We've given up land that was meant for animals to roam and for us to grow crops. We have up the value of trading one item for another without money being involved. Trade used to be I give you this bag of potatoes for that warm blanket ( or something of that nature). Technology, as great as it can be, is slowly replacing the need for human interaction. Although it may seem convenient, socializing is a very vital part of your mental health. Technology has also stripped many workers of their value. We no longer need people to learn a skill, a machine can do it. However, these same machines are polluting the air that we need to breathe. Everyone walks around knowing the damage being caused, but are too ignorant and lazy to do anything about it. Society has convinced us that there's nothing to worry about; The Earth will somehow survive all of this torture. That just isn't the case. Our sweet Earth only has so much to offer and if everyone continues to take more than their share, it will soon run out. The life we live is not sustainable. When I was in elementary school I watched a film from The Magic School bus. That film showed the kids what would happen if we kept creating so much waste. That was over 10 years ago, and things have continued to get worse. It's time we stop being so selfish and start taking care of this planet and the creatures that inhabit it. We need to preserve the Earth so that many generations after us, she will still be beautiful. It won't be easy, it can't be done alone. It starts with one person, it starts with you.
